5. North Mainland
There will be no campervans available for hire during 2011. We hope to be back for the 2012 season with new vehicles.
We appologise for any inconvenience caused.
Da Booth Vegetarian Cafe
Da Booth Vegetarian café at Hillswick is a well worn path for travelers who expect fine food. Located in a 16th century shipping booth, all profits go to the Hillswick Seal Sanctuary.
Fethaland
Parking the van at North Roe, a short walk to the top of the Mainland brings you to the deserted herring station of Fethaland. Once a busy herring station, the beach is still made up of fish bones rather than sand even though it has been 100 years since the station closed.
Tangwick Haa Museum
Tangwick Haa Museum is also in the area and housed in a former Laird’s home. The museum is full of artifacts and photographs illustrating life in Northmavine.
Ronas Hill
Ronas Hill is famous on the islands for being a great climb but also for good camping around the back at the Little Ayre where there is a water fall – we haven’t done this trip yet but every summer we say we’ll do it! Busta House Hotel has good accommodation and great food during the day or evening. The Pierhead is in Lower Voe and has excellent views and pub grub.
Eshaness
The Eshaness cliffs are a must if you are up north, en route to the cliffs you will pass the Dore Holm, a stack rising from the sea which looks like a horse drinking water.
