Outdoor Pursuits in Shetland
Photography
Shetland's scenery can be simply breathtaking. Combined with the fantastic light, it makes Shetland a dream location for photographers.
Cycling
The quiet country roads are great for family cycling, especially in the summertime when there is always an abundance of birds and other wildlife to spot.
Golf, Fishing and Other Sports
Shetland has two 18-hole golf courses, one at Dale just north of Lerwick and the other at Skaw on the northern tip of the island of Whalsay. The lochs around Shetland are generously stocked with trout - we can help you to arrange a permit.
Sea-based Activities
If the sea is more your thing, Shetland can be seen from a completely different perspective. A sea kayak guide can take you to some interesting places, small hobby fishing boats sail around the coast looking for a fresh catch and sailing regattas are held around the isles. Due to Shetland's position in a busy shipping channel there are numerous interesting wrecks suitable for diving. We can help you arrange an activity package.
Indoor Pursuits
When the rain threatens to fall Shetland has plenty of indoor attractions. Most of the islands and many of the larger Mainland villages have a modern swimming pool and leisure centre. In fact, Shetland's sporting facilities are of such high standard that it recently hosted the Natwest Island Games.
There is also a vibrant music and drama scene with events taking place all year round, throughout the islands. Shetland is particularly famous for its traditional music, with Shetland fiddle players being well-regarded all around the globe. Why not take your instrument and join in with a traditional music session?
