Scalloway was once the capital of Shetland and it is here that the first Scottish earl of Shetland built his castle. The key to the castle is given freely from the Scalloway Hotel on Main Street

There is a fine seafood restaurant at the North Atlantic Fisheries College.

Scalloway is a lovely village to wander around, and a drive to Trondra and Burra takes you over 2 bridges and to some lovely beaches on Burra.

Scalloway is also the starting point for sightseeing and sea angling trips operated by Cycharters. Destinations include Foula and the islands west of Scalloway.

Noss is a National Nature Reserve managed by Scottish Natural Heritage. It is an exceptional site for bird and seal watching as well as the occasional whale sighting. Trips by boat around Noss are given by Seabirds and Seals

From the top of the "Ward of Bressay," Bressay's highest hill, there are stunning views. On a clear day all four corners of Shetland can be seen.

Airport

The airport at Tingwall is the hub of local Loganair flights should you fancy a day trip to one of the outer islands.
